One of the most common questions we’re asked is: how long will my move actually take? Every move is different, but knowing the typical timeframes helps you plan your day, organise keys and settlements, and set realistic expectations.
As a guide, here’s how long a local Sunshine Coast move usually takes with a professional removalist team. Whatever the size of your home, using experienced removalists will get the job done much faster than doing it yourself.
These are estimated average times and are by no means guaranteed or to be expected. Every house is different.

For a small unit with minimal furniture, our team typically completes the move in 2–4 hours. If you’re moving within the same suburb, say from one side of Kawana to the other, you’ll usually be at the lower end of that range. There’s simply less to carry, fewer trips to the truck and quicker loading.
A two-bedroom move usually takes 4–6 hours. You’ll have more furniture and boxes, plus bulkier items like dining settings, fridges and washing machines. If you’re on the second or third floor of a building without a lift, allow an extra hour or two.
A standard three-bedroom home generally takes 6–8 hours for a local move. At this size there are multiple beds, lounge and dining furniture, possibly a home office, and usually a garage full of tools, bikes and outdoor gear. Heavy items such as pianos, safes or large timber furniture can push the move towards the longer end.
Large family homes usually take 8–12 hours, and some moves are spread over two days. Along with the extra furniture, these homes often have well-stocked garages, sheds, under-house storage and outdoor furniture. For bigger moves we may send a larger truck or a second vehicle to keep things efficient.
Every Sunshine Coast suburb has its own quirks, and these can make a real difference to how long your move takes.
Steep blocks and hillside homes
Suburbs like Buderim, Palmwoods and much of the hinterland have steep driveways, split-level homes and long runs of stairs. When the truck can’t park close to the front door, every item has to be carried further, which adds time. We plan for this in advance so there are no surprises. High-rise units and lifts
Moving in or out of an apartment in Mooloolaba, Maroochydore or Caloundra often means sharing a lift and working around building rules. Many buildings require you to book the lift and loading bay ahead of time, and some limit moving hours. A lift that’s pre-booked and protected with padding can save a lot of waiting around.
Highset Queenslanders
Traditional highset homes have most of their living space upstairs, often reached by narrow external stairs. Moving heavy furniture up and down takes more care and more time than a single-level home.
Travel distance on the coast
The Sunshine Coast is more spread out than many people realise. A move from Caloundra to Noosa involves around an hour of driving each way, and a move between the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane adds more. Weather
Queensland summers bring heat, humidity and afternoon storms. We’ll keep working in most conditions, but heavy rain can slow things down while we protect your furniture and floors.
Specialty items

Most of the time on moving day is spent carrying and loading, so anything you can do beforehand makes a big difference.
Have everything packed before we arrive. Unpacked cupboards and loose items are one of the biggest causes of delays. If you’d rather not pack yourself, our packing and unpacking service takes care of it, usually the day before your move.
Use proper moving boxes. Uniform, sturdy boxes stack neatly and load much faster than a mix of supermarket boxes and bags. You can pick up moving boxes from us.
Book lifts and parking early. If you’re in a unit, book the lift and loading bay at both ends. For houses, keep the driveway and street parking clear so the truck can get as close as possible.
Dismantle what you can. Taking apart bed frames, desks and outdoor settings ahead of time saves time on the day. Keep screws and bolts in labelled bags.
Label boxes by room. This makes unloading much quicker because we can place everything in the right room straight away.
Consider storage if dates don’t line up. If your settlement dates don’t match, we can move your belongings into our secure storage facility and deliver them when you have the keys, so you’re not rushing to squeeze everything into one day.
